"James: Being Doers of the Word"
A book entitled, How Should We Then Live? was written by Francis Schaeffer and published in 1976. Nearly 2000 years earlier, the Apostle Peter asked, "what sort of people ought you to be" (2 Peter 3:11). Pertinent questions like these have been on the minds of Christians since the beginning of the church. The New Testament writer James makes a practical call for the Believer to live in such a way that his or her faith is clearly demonstrated, for as he writes, "So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead" (James 2:17). Some have confused the doctrines of justification and sanctification, claiming that good works are necessary for salvation. But nothing could be further from Biblical truth. Throughout our study of this short New Testament epistle we will be encouraged to "be doers of the word, and not hearers only" (James 1:22).
